Whatever your story, we’re listening

ListenWell is a peer-led phone service available Monday to Friday, from 9am to 9pm (except on public holidays).

When you call, you’ll connect with a trained peer who understands the importance of listening without judgment. Our service offers:

  • A safe space to share your story.
  • Empathy and understanding from someone with lived experience.
  • Strategies for coping and navigating challenges.

Whether you’re looking for someone to talk to, practical coping strategies, or just a listening ear, we’re here to support you.

Our friendly volunteers have lived through their own mental health challenges, so you can be sure that when you pick up the phone, you will connect with someone who understands the importance of sharing stories and being heard.

No callers put on hold or in a queue

We understand a queue can be less than ideal when you want to talk to someone. If the ListenWell team are in a busy period, calls will go to a managed voicemail to leave your preferred contact details. We’ll call back every message as soon as we possibly can.

Frequently asked questions

ListenWell is available to:

  • Anyone needing a compassionate listener.
  • Participants in Wellways programs.
  • People transitioning from Wellways support to community or other services.

A warmline is a non-urgent support service where you can connect with someone who will listen, provide understanding, and offer emotional support. It’s different from a crisis line because it focuses on ongoing conversations and peer support, rather than immediate crisis intervention. ListenWell is a warmline designed to help you feel heard and supported, not just in moments of crisis, but through continued connection.

Lived experience peer volunteers are individuals who have personally navigated mental health challenges, recovery, or supported someone with a mental health condition. They use their experiences to offer understanding, empathy, and hope to others. As volunteers, they are not paid counsellors or mental health professionals but are trained to offer compassionate listening, encouragement, and guidance to help participants explore their own pathways to wellbeing.
