The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) supports people with a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday activities.
The NDIS presents a fantastic opportunity for people living with mental health issues and disabilities to gain greater choice and control over the supports they need to build a good life in their community.
Your Voice, Your Choice is a community education program designed to raise awareness about the NDIS, including how to access it and how to benefit from the opportunities it provides.
The program aims to support people with a disability to:
- Explore what a good life means to them
- Set life goals and plan for the future
- Make informed decisions
Through the program, you will gain a greater understanding of how the NDIS works and how it can increase your control and choice in accessing supports and services, meaning you will be more confident when you apply.
Information will be available through regular events including workshops, community conversations and one-on-one information sessions.
This program is for people with a disability, mental illness or other psychosocial disability and their family and friends who, due to language, culture or personal circumstance, have had little information about the NDIS, or may require personalised support in order to engage with the scheme.
Your Voice, Your Choice will support families in understanding what choice and control means for people with a disability, mental illness or other psychosocial disability, while also recognising the complexities of the caring role. It will encourage both consumers and carers to maximise opportunities that might be available to them under the NDIS.
