The Commonwealth Government is rolling out a range of new early-intervention services and supports for carers throughout Australia. These new services have been designed for carers, based on research and evidence that shows the best way to support carers is to help them early in their caring role, increase their skills and reduce the strain of caring.
These new services will help carers get the support they need before reaching crisis point.
Wellways has been announced as a Carer Gateway Service Provider (CGSP) throughout Queensland and the New South Wales regions of South West Sydney and the Nepean Blue Mountains for the Integrated Carer Support Service (ICSS) developed by the Department of Social Services (DSS). We are the lead agency in the delivery of the Government's new carer services and will be supported by our consortia partners Dementia Australia, Little Dreamers, North-West Rural Health and Selectability.

Why are carer services changing?
To improve support for carers, the Commonwealth Government has undertaken research and engaged with stakeholders over 2 years to re-design services. This has resulted in the development of the Integrated Carer Support Service delivery model.
Improvements include the introduction of new early-intervention services and a new service delivery model that will provide carers with a support system that is easy to navigate and provides a consistent experience across the country.
When do the changes take effect?
The Commonwealths Government has announced that from April 2020 the new service delivery model designed by carers, for carers to help them get the support they need early, before reaching crisis point should be fully implemented and operational.
Existing carer service providers will have their funding extended until 31 May 2020 to ensure continuity of support to carers during the important transition to the new Carer Gateway Service Providers.
