Wellways recently identified two errors in our payroll which have adversely impacted on staff pay. One is an incorrect classification of support workers in our Supported Independent Living programs. The other is an error in our interpretation of the award around sleepovers. Both have resulted in underpayments. Staff affected have been briefed and we are working hard to make good as quickly as we can.
We have notified the Fair Work Ombudsman, and we will be notifying relevant unions and other stakeholders in the interest of openness and transparency.
Although these are genuine errors, we unreservedly apologise. We are deeply mortified and commit not only to rectifying the current situation, but also to establishing processes to ensure this can never happen again.
We have contracted the Australian Payroll Association to assist us and will put in place regular external audits to quickly identify any issues with our award interpreter software program.
We pride ourselves on being an honest and fair employer who values our people, and this is not consistent with where we want to be. We will do everything necessary to improve our systems and processes to ensure this is never repeated.
