Following a review of its services provided to participants through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Wellways Australia has taken the decision to progressively and carefully scale down the delivery of selected NDIS funded supports over the next 4 months.

Wellways has been a NDIS service provider since the Barwon Trial Site was established in 2013. Eight years on Wellways has provided NDIS support services across the length and breadth of Australia's eastern seaboard.

Since the rollout of the NDIS, providers have had to significantly adjust their operating models and absorb significant and mounting costs associated with delivering NDIS services. Subsidising out of pocket NDIS expenses is not a sustainable option for Wellways.

The pricing structure set by the NDIA does not reasonably account for what is required of organisations, like Wellways, to deliver safe and effective high-quality services. Quality should never be allowed to diminish in favour NDIS expansion.

Wellways has decided to undertake a more focused approach on the types of NDIS supports it will provide in the future. This will ensure Wellways can continue to provide high standards of service to its participants with high and complex care needs; areas of expertise provided by Wellways for more than 40 years.

The focus of our NDIS services will be to continue to support many of the most vulnerable Australians in need of high and complex care services, including Supported Independent Living, Support Coordination and Recovery Coaching.

Importantly, it will enable Wellways to strengthen its provision of high and complex care needs and wellbeing services. The decision will ensure Wellways services are more sustainable and provide value amid increasing community demand for services.

Wellways will work closely with the NDIA, Support Coordinators and LACs to ensure affected NDIS participants experience a smooth transition to another service provider of their choice and that nobody is left without care during the transition.
