A new pricing tier for self-care, social and recreational support for participants with "very complex" support needs has been introduced into the National Disability Insurance Scheme. This adds 10 percent to the rate, a move welcomed as a step in the right direction by Wellways.
“This at least acknowledgment of what we in the sector have maintained: people with complex issues require more financial support than presently provided under the NDIS,” said Wellways CEO Elizabeth Crowther.
This welcome increase has come off the back of the Independent Pricing Review (IPR)'s recommendations, which found existing pricing levels for participants with complex needs were insufficient to hire appropriately skilled workers or the necessary ongoing training and supervision.
Assistant Minister for Social Services Sarah Henderson said the new pricing plan would be released in coming months.
