Coonamble is a small town in the central-west plains of New South Wales, with a population of under 3,000 people. Times have been tough in the area, with an economic downturn and drought.
Which is why Wellways HASI coordinator Elsie Manson decided to organise a Wellbeing Day. “I wanted to do something special for the community because over the past few years Coonamble has had tough times,” Elsie said. “So, I thought what better way to create positive vibes then having everyone come together enjoying each other’s company learning new ways for self-care and trying to break down (social) isolation.
“By having 22 services there we were able to create a network for people to know where they can go to get help and support,” she said. “I wanted to make it a fully interactive day were people could learn new ways of coping when having a bad day.”
“Overall the day was fantastic had at least 250-plus people come and try all the activities and enjoy morning tea. We were also kindly donated 19 prizes for the day to raffle by services and businesses,” Elsie said.
