Community art workshops - held as part of the Wellways Life in Community (LinC) program - are providing a creative space for people. Designed to promote good mental health and create communities that are more accessible, inclusive and supportive, the workshops are not just for people living with mental health issues and disabilities, but anyone who is interested.
In the Australian Capital Territory during Mental Health month, several artworks from the group were entered in the “Piece of Mind” exhibition at the Belconnen Community Service. A collaborative artwork entitled Blue Bowls - inspired by the subject of colour theory - included 52 individual mini canvasses, (representing 52 weeks of the year).
Each workshop participant contributed to the piece which was highly praised and sold on opening night. The team was tremendously proud of their achievement which has spurred them on to continue creating and put the sale money towards much-needed art supplies.
Many thanks to Ben and Belconnen Community Service for hosting the Piece of Mind exhibition and opening entry to the whole of community.
